Does ADHD Make Time Management Harder?

Time management involves deciding what matters, remembering what needs to happen, getting started and keeping track of progress.

Difficulties with planning, organisation, procrastination and time management are recognised in adult ADHD (National Institute of Mental Health, n.d.).

You may care deeply about being on time and meeting your commitments, yet still find yourself struggling to translate those intentions into a realistic day.

This course helps you examine where your own plans become difficult to follow and practise strategies that fit your circumstances. The starting point is understanding your patterns with curiosity, so you can make useful adjustments.

Does This Sound Familiar?

You give yourself ten minutes for something that takes half an hour. You sit down to finish one task and end up switching between several. An appointment later in the day seems to make the whole morning difficult to use.Perhaps you write a detailed plan, fall behind before lunchtime and abandon it altogether. Or you spend so long deciding where to begin that there is little time left to do the work.

Sometimes you push through at the last minute and get everything done, but the effort leaves you depleted. Other times, you postpone a task because you cannot see how to fit it in or how to complete it to the standard you expect of yourself.

If you recognise these experiences, this course gives you a structured opportunity to explore what is happening and try a different approach.

What You Will Learn:

The Adult ADHD Time Management course combines understanding with practical application.

You will explore how ADHD can affect your perception of time and identify your personal time-management blocks. You will use ADHD-friendly SMART goals to turn broad intentions into clearer, more manageable plans. You will practise prioritising tasks, structuring your days and developing routines that take account of your available time and energy. The course also addresses focus, procrastination, perfectionism and the overwhelm that can build when too many demands compete for your attention.

Throughout, you are encouraged to adapt the strategies to your own life and notice which changes make daily tasks more manageable.

Understand Your Relationship With Time

When you look at a task, how do you decide how long it will take? Does your estimate include getting ready, finding what you need, interruptions and finishing up?

You will explore your perception of time and the patterns that influence your planning. Understanding these patterns can help you see why a schedule looks possible on paper but feels very different in practice.

The aim is to develop a clearer picture of your day so that your plans have a better chance of fitting the time you actually have.

Manage Procrastination and Perfectionism

Perhaps you are waiting until you can give a task your full attention. Perhaps the first step feels unclear, or you are worried that your work will not be good enough.

The course explores procrastination and perfectionism as part of your individual time-management patterns. CBT-informed approaches give you a way to examine the thoughts and expectations that may be making it harder to begin or finish.

You will work on making tasks more approachable and setting realistic expectations for progress. A useful plan needs room for an ordinary day, including the days when your concentration and energy are limited.

Reduce Overwhelm When Everything Feels Urgent

When your task list keeps growing, deciding what to do first can become a task in itself. You may move between jobs, respond to whatever attracts your attention, or feel stuck because every demand seems equally pressing.

This course helps you practise prioritising and structuring your day so you have a clearer starting point. You will consider what needs attention now, what can wait and what is realistic within the time available.

Creating a manageable plan also means recognising your limits and allowing space for breaks, transitions and the unexpected.

Smiling woman in brown blazer and jeans leaning on a wooden dining table in a bright kitchen.

Build Routines You Can Return To

A routine needs to be usable on more than your most organised day.You will explore how to build structure around everyday activities while keeping your approach flexible enough for real life.

The focus is on routines that support you and can be adjusted when your circumstances change.

Missing a day does not erase the value of what you have practised. You can use what you notice to simplify your approach and make returning to it easier.

Practical Tools You Can Apply

The course includes a 73-page workbook to use alongside the learning material. You can work through the content in stages, taking time to reflect on your own difficulties and practise the strategies in everyday situations. A work deadline, household task or busy morning can become an opportunity to test an adjustment and notice what happens. With 180 days of access, you have time to revisit material as you discover which areas need more attention.

What You Can Work Towards

The course provides opportunities to develop clearer priorities, more realistic plans and a better understanding of your personal time-management difficulties.

For you, progress might mean allowing more time for preparation, starting a task with less hesitation or having a manageable plan for a busy morning.

It may also mean noticing sooner when you have taken on too much and adjusting your expectations before the day becomes overwhelming.

Results vary, and learning takes practice. You are encouraged to look for useful, sustainable changes in your own daily life.

Build a Time System That Fits Your Life

Bring the learning areas together by considering how planning, priorities, routines and focus work in your circumstances. What does a realistic day look like for you? Which demands need more preparation? What gets in the way of starting? What helps you return to a task after an interruption?Use these questions to guide how you apply the course material. Your approach can develop as your commitments and capacity change.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Adult ADHD Time Management Course
Why can adults with ADHD struggle with time management?
Adult ADHD can involve difficulties with organisation, planning, attention and completing tasks. These can make it harder to translate intentions into a workable schedule (National Institute of Mental Health, n.d.). Yes. The course explores how ADHD affects your perception of time, alongside your personal time-management blocks and practical planning strategies.

Yes. Both are included, alongside prioritising, routines, focus and reducing overwhelm. You will explore these areas through CBT-informed approaches, mindfulness and practical adaptive strategies.

Will I learn how to prioritise and plan my day?
Yes. The course includes prioritising, structuring your days and using ADHD-friendly SMART goals for planning.

Yes. The course is available online worldwide and can be completed at your own pace.

Is this therapy?
No. This is an educational course. It does not include individual psychological assessment, diagnosis, counselling or therapy.

Can the course tell me whether I have ADHD?
No. The course is designed around adult ADHD learning needs, but it is not a diagnostic assessment. Speak with an appropriately qualified professional if you want to explore whether you have ADHD.

What approaches does the course use?
‍
The course uses CBT-informed approaches, mindfulness and practical adaptive strategies. Research has investigated clinician-delivered interventions targeting time management, organisation and planning in adults with ADHD (Solanto et al., 2010). That research supports the broader approach; it is not a trial of this self-paced course and does not establish its individual outcomes.
